Last weekend Jonas and I finally got the chance to explore our surroundings a bit. You may think, that since we have been in California for a month, we must have visited tons of scenic places by now. Sadly, that isn’t the case as we have been super busy with moving in, buying furniture, buying a car and other life things. However, last weekend we finally spent a whole day out of Rancho Cucamonga and enjoyed a morning in Santa Monica followed by a Sofar concert in Westwood!
I had gone to Santa Monica when I was little with my parents, however, I couldn’t remember much. When we found out we were moving to California, it was one of the first places I wanted to visit. So, on our first weekend exploring LA, before a really great Sofar sounds concert, we drove to Santa Monica and enjoyed a lovely brunch at Urth Caffe followed by a casual and lovely stroll along the beach.
We parked our car in 3rd Street Promenade and walked down Ocean Avenue, which was super quiet and peaceful at 9am on a Sunday! When we were done with breakfast we saw just how busy it had gotten, so we were happy we got there early and pretty much enjoyed the whole iconic street to ourselves.
Surrounded by palm trees all around, we made our way to Urth Caffe- probably one of the most popular cafes in California. I obviously was very excited to try it out, even though I didn’t order their signature Boba drinks as it’s just not my thing. Instead, Jonas and I grabbed some coffee and a scone to share, followed by some poached eggs on salmon for Jonas and parma ham for me. Although we had to wait quite some time due to how insanely busy the cafe was, the food was actually really good and I definitely would come back again! Maybe I’ll even try out a Boba next time 🙂
Following our lovely brunch, we walked down to the beach and casually strolled back to the pier. The water was surprisingly warm, although there was wind that day so we decided to walk a bit and then sit down on the sand and enjoy the view. We also facetimed Jonas’ family and showed them the beautiful ocean in front of us. There were people jogging, surfing, walking their dogs and having picnics all in one place. I absolutely loved the beautiful sound of the waves crashing and how peaceful the beach was considering we were in one of the most busy places near LA. It was still super peaceful and I loved it!
We didn’t even notice how it had turned almost 1pm by then, so we decided to head back to the car as we had a Sofar sounds concert to get to in Westwood. We walked up the pier, back to 3rd Street Promenade where I grabbed a drink for the ride to the concert and left Santa Monica. I don’t think it will be too long before we go back though…
If you’ve been to Santa Monica and have some suggestions of what to see next or places to eat- let me know in the comments or message me on Instagram @enjoybypaula I would love to hear your suggestions! 🙂
