Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the lovely beginning of February. I’m sorry I have been MIA for the past few weeks, but I have some exciting news to share with all of you 🙂 If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably already know this, but… Jonas and I have moved to California!
Wait, what?! 🙂
I know… it’s a big change and I could probably talk about the whole process for hours, but, long story short- back in the Spring time, Jonas got a job offer from a company based here in California. After some consideration, he decided to take the job 🙂 Whilst we were getting all the paperwork done to move to Cali, he was based in the Netherlands with a subsidiary company and just over two weeks ago we moved here! It’s been a whirlwind and so many admin related tasks the past few months. From visa applications, to interviews, flights, insurance, finding an apartment and much more…. it has been a lot. But, we have been enjoying our time here very much nonetheless!
Our main priority when we arrived, after completing all the legal work we had to for Jonas to start working, was to find an apartment. His work kindly got us a hotel for a month while we search for a place, but as my goal was to find an apartment as soon as possible, I had narrowed down and organised viewings for 9 properties during our first weekend here 🙂 This turned out to be super successful and we signed our lease last Monday.
Our new home is a 2 bed, 1 bath apartment with a balcony, on the 3rd floor. It has a view of the pool as well as a glimpse of the mountains in the surrounding area. There’s also a gym on site, which is great after all the delicious food we have been enjoying whilst we lived in the hotel!
Slowly, but surely we have started to get furniture and decor together, but there is still a lot to do 🙂 We finally have a bed and a dining table, so can properly start living in our new home whilst we search for the remaining furniture. I can’t wait to share some pictures with all of you when we get everything finished! I’m planning to do a before/after post of what it looked like empty and what it looks like finished.
This is such an exciting time for us as we are in a completely different place, starting a new chapter in our lives and hopefully with many fun things ahead! Whilst Jonas is at work during the week days, I am looking for furniture, appliances, decor. I am also enjoying the California weather, exploring new places every day and getting myself ready for a driver’s test as our Lithuanian licenses will only be valid for about half a year and I want to get the California one as soon as possible. I also want to sign up to a Spanish course, so I can learn the language and look at various volunteering opportunities. Unfortunately, with the visa I got, I am unable to work for now, but I’m sure I will find ways to challenge myself, grow and keep busy in this new city 🙂 Hey, that means more time for my blog too! 🙂
If you’ve got any suggestions of online course websites (apart from skillshare and coursera)- please leave a comment below! I’d love to check them out. Also let me know in the comments if you’ve got any questions or would like to know more about our visa process and our big move.
For now, that’s all! But, here’s to a new beginning!!
